DIVIDED RELIGIONS

Freedom of religion and religious belief are fundamental rights in the Netherlands. This means that people are free to worship whoever they choose.
52% of the Dutch are Christian (Catholic and Protestant) and 5.3% are Muslim. Traditionally, the south of Holland has been Catholic and the north, Protestant.
In 2020, 20 percent of the Dutch considered themselves members of the Catholic Church, 14 percent were Protestant, 5 percent Muslim and 5 percent belonged to another religious group according to a study by the Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS).
